Pictures from London

Richmond Park is a 955 hectares (9.55 km²; 3.69 sq mi) urban park within London UK. Almost three times as large as New York City’s Central Park, it is Britain’s largest urban walled park, and the largest of the Royal Parks in London. The park is famous for its red and fallow deer, which number over six hundred.

It’s a shame I discovered it so late; I would definitely have gone there more often. Well, here’s a couple photos.

Krystof is done with schoolwork for the year.

That means the holidays have begun.

I will see many places during them.

Hopefully I will have many pictures from them.

Today I had an excursion down to Brick Lane, and then to the Tower of London. At Brick Lane, I wandered into two art exhibitions; it was pretty damn cool. I have already put up photos from Brick Lane (and the route from there to the Tower); the rest I will put up later. It is now time to go watch the Lakers win a Championship. Woop woop.

Not entirely happy with the way they came out, but I suppose it’s not terrible, and I’ve learned a few things, so hey.

The weather’s been wonderful for about a week now – sunny skies, 15 degree Celsius temperatures sort of thing. It was hard to convince myself to stay in and do some work work work.

But no more. The courseworks are turned in, the lectures are over. Now comes a month-long revision period….we’ll see how that goes. And then an onslaught of exams. We’ll definitely see how that goes.

In the meantime, I’ve been starting to find time for photography again, so here‘s a couple photos I’ve taken around Chelsea during the last week.

That’s right kids, London’s in sweet slumbers under thick white sheets (measured in at around 16cm, apparently). And when I say slumbers, I mean it – all bus connections have been canceled, and some tube lines are not working either (some parts of many lines are not underground). The streets are much emptier than normal, all lectures at the University were canceled for today (to be rescheduled)…it’s wonderful. Everyone’s loving it…everyone that’s outside, anyway.

It all started yesterday, with some periodic snowing during our football match, and things got heavy around 8 pm. Around nine there was at least 60 of us involved in a massive snowfight in the intersection outside, chucking snowballs amidst (gradually leaving) Porshes and Jaguars, a moving madness of snowing free-fall. The hard-core stayed out till after 2am. Much of today we spent in various snow-related activities in Hyde Park with unspurisingly massive numbers of other people of various sorts. ‘Twas fun. Tomorrow, should lectures be canceled, we will head to Primrose Hill.

UPDATE: Lectures canceled tomorrow, whee!

First came a mad bicycle rush through London’s twisting roads on bicycles, then a solid three hours of shooting time. We came by some protesters (against the Iraq war and the Gaza situation) in front of Westminster Palace; one of the fellows (a war veteran I believe) has apparently been there since the beginning of the Iraq war and refuses to move, and bills proposed to remove him never passed. When we made it to our ultimate destination, the London Eye, we did something I’d wanted to do for quite a while: painted with lights on long exposure photos. We used lights we got off our bicycles, and I dare say I’m pleased with the way they came out. Then another mad dash home, curry for dinner, and all you can do is wonder where the whole evening went..
